Biography:

Terry Talentino was born in Sault Ste Marie and grew up in Timmins. After playing OHA Junior “A” hockey, he joined the Air Force during WW II, continuing to play the game. After having an NHL tryout with Detroit in 1946, he played semi pro in San Francisco, New Westminster and Glace Bay before returning to the north to play senior hockey with South Porcupine and Kapuskasing for 15 years. Entering the recreation field in 1953, he came to North Bay in 1966 as Managing Director of the city's arenas and in his 23 years in this role, he enhanced the Gardens reputation as the best kept arena in the north as well as working to attract major sporting events to this city. He also took an active role in organizing such events as the Canadian Figure Skating Championships in 1986, the Canadian Midget Hockey Tournament in 1986 and the Provincial Peewee and Bantam hockey tourneys which, all told, attracted 3.2 million dollars to North Bay's economy. He was involved with the Ontario Winter Games (1989) and helped initiate events such as the Golden Puck and Make it a Date to Skate. He spent many years as an executive with the NOHA, the OHA and the CAHA. Twice President of the NOHA (1969-71 and 1978), he also served as Secretary-Manager in 1977 and was named a Life Member in 1984. He served as Chair of the NOHA Junior A Southern Group; managed the 1974 Jr. Trappers and chaired the CAHA/OHA Minor Council in 1988.
