From hockey administrator, to professional hockey official to community fundraiser, sponsor and organizer, Peter Moffat has touched all of the bases. His abilities as an administrator led to the formation of a complete hockey program in an area of Chicago known as the north shore. A key component of that development was the program for on ice officials. His involvement in that aspect of the program led to him developing a relationship with then NHL referee in chief Vern Buffey. Buffey saw huge potential in Peter as an official and he became part of the NHL staff that saw him work NHL games for 5 years before he moved on to the World Hockey Association where, after 4 years, an injury cut his career short.
Looking for new challenges, he went to work for the Tim Horton’s Children’s Foundation which provided him with the opportunity to return to North Bay as a franchisee. Having established himself back in North Bay, Peter lent his time, talents and treasure to a numerous number of local charities and causes, not only from an organization perspective, but equally from a philanthropic perspective. Today literally thousands of young people have been introduced to various sports through the “timbits” program that Peter has supported for literally decades.
Under the philosophy of you have to give to get and his passion for the growth and development of programs and services for people of all ages and abilities, Peter Moffat has made a significant contribution to communities and organizations that he has been part of.
